Sheri has enjoyed teaching drama for 24 years with the DDSB. Her favourite activities are coaching competition improv teams, directing class plays, and taking the stage herself in community theatre. Sheri wants to offer as many artistic opportunities as possible for youth, teens and adults here in Durham. Her dream of creating an inspirational art community is coming true at Arts on Fire Ajax. Susana Mingram

Art Instructor

Susy is a fourth-year student at OCAD University studying in the program of Drawing and Painting. She is an award-winner artist in the Heartbeat Student Art Exhibition in Ajax and participated in the For Art’s Sake Exhibition at the McLaughlin Gallery. Susy helps kids, youth and teens explore their artistic potential through drawing and painting projects.

Sofia Mingram

Sofia Mingram

Drama & Photography Instructor

Sofia studied advertising and marketing communications at Durham College and is currently working as a photographer/videographer. She enjoys capturing the best candid family portraits and supporting small businesses with digital photography. Sofia teaches photography tricks and tips with DSLR and mobile cameras in her workshops.

Marcelle Boisjoli

Marcelle Boisjoli

Singing Instructor

Marcelle has a Masters Degree in Classical Voice from McGill University and has been a private vocal instructor for over 15 years. Although she loves singing very loud high notes and teaching others to do the same, she is equally at home with contemporary singing styles. Marcelle is excited to help students explore their love of music at Arts on Fire.

Bucket Drumming Instructor

Sarah Varty is a graduate of Queens University Music program and professional percussionist, drummer, music educator, and artist manager in the G.T.A. Sarah performs with notable acts around the G.T.A. and assists with music event promotion and planning.
Sarah performed with Queen’s University Wind Ensemble(principal), Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra, North York Concert Band, Whitby Brass Band, York Opera, Summerhill Orchestra (timpanist/principal) and is a guest principal percussionist at Pickering Community Strings.

Art Instructor

Holly studied Visual Arts at Toronto’s OCAD School of Art. Her specialty is in drawing and painting and she knows how to deliver these skills to students of all ages. Teens can build their art portfolios with Holly's classes quickly. Learn portrait sketching and high-level paint techniques in Holly's Youth, Teen, and Adult art classes.

Zuna Amir

Zuna Amir

Account Director

Zuna studied Illustration and Design at OCAD University. She is an award-winning illustrator with the Society of Illustration, American Illustration and Richmond Studios. Zuna helps kids and youth discover and pursue their passions for the fine arts! She's also great at hosting private paint parties.

Alex Murphy

Alex Murphy

Art Instructor

Alex is a certified teacher with the Durham District School Board. She completed the Queen’s-Trent Concurrent Education program with a specialization in Image, Sound and Performance. Alex has experience performing in numerous productions that won awards at the Sears Drama Festival. She also directed a production with the Anne Shirley Theatre Company during her time at Trent. Alex is passionate about working with kids, youth, and teens of all ages. Her goal is to provide tools that will allow them to build confidence, explore the Arts and let their inner Actors and Artists shine!

Zoe is studying the fundamental and technical skills of visual arts to prepare for a career in interior design. She enjoys working with kids and helps them strive for personal growth and success. Zoe always encourages kids to interpret their imagination and express themselves freely in an artistic way through drawing and painting.

Connor Atkins

Connor Atkins

Improv and Acting Instructor

Connor studied Film and Television at Humber College and has been teaching Youth/Teen Improv in Durham for more than 7 years. He is an award-winning improviser who competed in the Canadian Improv Games and won an award for Best Playwright and Director at the Sears Drama Festival. Connor has great success in building confidence and stage skills in his acting students. Prepare for your next TV/Film audition with his Teen Acting with Scripts and Acting for Camera class.

Graham Porter

Graham Porter

Music Instructor

Local musician Graham Porter has more than 20 years of guitar playing experience. He plays the bass in the band “Autumn Smoke” and has toured across Canada playing everything from electronic, to country, to heavy metal. Graham has won many awards in the Royal Conservatory of Music. He is also a popular guitar instructor in Durham. Graham will teach our guitar students the fundamentals of guitar and have them strumming to Billie Eilish, Deep Purple, and the White Stripes.

Steve Hobbs

Steve Hobbs

Acting Instructor

Steve is an actor, as well as a comedian in improv, sketch, and satire. A graduate of the Second City sketch conservatory and longform improv programs, he’s known for comedic stage performances in hit shows at Toronto Fringe like “Behold the Barfly!” (2016) and the co-written/co-produced “Everything Is Fine” (2014).

He's been featured internationally at comedy festivals such as the Detroit Improv Festival, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, and NYC’s Del Close Marathon.

Recent TV appearances include CBC's "Canada: the Story of Us", with upcoming appearances on FX’s “Mrs. America” and “What We Do in the Shadows” in 2020.

Drawing Instructor

loves to draw and dance! She’s worked with youth for many years in the dance studio and now also enjoys teaching them how to draw. Kayleigh always encourages youth to customize their art and strive for individual expression.
